This site is an archive of projects to be used as inspiration as well as a model for student artists/artists who want to work with communities to create interventionist art. We don't want to lay out how one should undertake their artistic process in regards to working with a community but rather how you could begin working with a community.
The steps we lay out will be more oriented around resources and how neighborhoods function as organizations in Minneapolis and St Paul. There will also be advice on how to begin approaching neighborhoods and groups. The glossary is also an important resource since the world of Neighborhood organizations contains many acronyms and programs which may be new to you but are very helpful to understanding how you can fit your project into a community.
Who should can post a request/propose a project?
While we primarily intend this site to work for students at the University who identify as artists (you don't have to have a degree or even art classes, just ability) we are open to artists outside the University community proposing projects. Our primary goal is to see art integrated more fully into communities and utilized as a tool for solving problems.
On this site we want to limit who can post a request for a project to an neighborhood/community organization rather than individuals. This allows the artist to leverage the resources of the organization thereby extending their capabilities.
